Loss of Signal
(of course I still love you)

Loss of Signal (of course I still love you) is at once a piece of music theater, a performative spatial installation, and a strategy for making an entire space sound. In the approximately 60-minute interactive performance, the audience observes the everyday life of an astronaut who has long since lost contact with Ground Control and now continues to fly through space without a destination or mission. Through routine and leisure activities, recounting snippets of memories, dealing with the on-board computer, with the engine room or simply with themself, the lost passenger introduces us to her microcosm, which can be experienced visually, acoustically and even haptically. The design of the performative space – with tube televisions, model landscapes, old furniture, video cassettes, concrete quotations, analog sound technology and self-built machines – invites playful discovery and at the same time ties in with the hypermedia quarantine experiences (especially) of the young generation during the Corona pandemic of 2020/21. This opens up a diverse and accessible level of interaction, allowing the audience to participate in the creation of complex sounds and video images as they explore the space itself. Loss of Signal (of course I still love you) is developed in a collective, experimental and rehearsal-based process by the paranormal φeer group together with performer and text developer Amélie Haller and musicians specializing in contemporary and experimental music Julia Mihály, Miguel Ángel García Martín and Lydia Schmidl. Strategies of co-composition and transdisciplinary thinking together are the focus of the project, and at the same time are continuously differentiated and further developed through the practice of intensive collaboration.
