n.o.t.i.o.n.s is a concept album created in 2022/23. It is based on recordings of improvised music, played by me on instruments which (in a conventional/classical sense) I “cannot play” or have never “learned to play”. Thereby a strongly experimental approach was followed, in which the instruments were partly played in radically different ways than is “normally” the case, and were combined with a large variety of preparations, additional sound objects, etc. Some of the instruments were also broken, had missing components or were intentionally disassembled into their individual parts. Moreover, all steps of the production (conception, development, recording, mixing, etc.) were carried out entirely by myself.

In this way, n.o.t.i.o.n.s is the result of an intense “collaboration with myself”. At the same time, the album is a significant milestone in my ongoing journey of (re)developing an independent, idiosyncratic, “professional-dilettante” music-making practice on a wide range of “non-mastered” instruments, instrument torsos, and sound objects. (I have discussed this specific approach, for instance, in my essay in MusikTexte 176.)
